FFAers excel at leadership camp

During the week of July 12-16, 20 members of the Jackson FFA chapter attended the State FFA Leadership Camp, located at Camp Rising Sun on the Lake of the Ozarks.  The camp theme this year was ‘Expedition FFA!’ .

During the week, campers attended sessions and workshops focusing on setting goals for the future, discovering more about themselves, and achieving success.

Special speakers from the Missouri Department of Conservation, United States Army, Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri Beef Industry Council, Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Soybean Growers, MFA Inc., and the University of Missouri spoke to campers about careers, issues in agriculture, and subjects facing youth today.

Along with leadership and personal development activities, campers had the opportunity to participate in cabin athletic tournaments in volleyball, softball, basketball, trapshooting, and spending time at the waterfront.  The campers also enjoyed an evening dance and a trip out to the Main Street Opry.

Those attending camp were: Adam Birk, Geoff Myers, Trevor Jaco, Will Hardison, Jameson Moore, Christopher Ludwig, Katie Bradshaw, Lindsey Seabaugh, Jordan Kuntze, Micayla Gray, Jennifer Stahlman, Mackenzie Hobeck, Brittany McArthur, Tiffany Oliver, Ashley Drum, Beth Wheatley, Lindsey Seabaugh, Adam Brown, Matt Zeller, Jake Jones and Clint Heuer.

Jackson FFA members participated in several activities throughout the week and earned several awards. Birk was selected to serve as the camp treasurer, and Seabaugh was selected as All-Around Camper.

Four members of the chapter participated in a rigorous schedule of leadership activities to earn their State FFA Leadership medal. These members participated in at least three leadership sessions per day, attended workshops by various civic groups, and participated in several public speaking contests held within the camp.

Members earning this award were Seabaugh, Bradshaw, Birk and Gray. The Jackson FFA members also earned distinctions in several leadership contests held during the week including:

Extemporaneous Public Speaking, 1st place,   Seabaugh; Impromptu Public Speaking, 1st, Bradshaw; Rituals Speaking Contest, 1st, Jackson Team #1, and 3rd, Jackson Team #2.

By the end of the week, these members discovered many new things about themselves, and developed new leadership skills.  They are now ready to share these skills with their chapters and communities as they continue their journey as the leaders of tomorrom.
