New employee Jess Girard has recently joined the staff at Uptown Jackson Revitalization Organization. As the event coordinator, Girard will be combining her unique volunteering skills with her impressive organizational experience.

“I’ve been volunteering in Jackson for three or four years, now, so it’s not completely new,” Girard said. “I’ve interned at Sign Art Studio for two summers, and I’ve worked in Cape at two different graphic design firms.”

With work experience that centers around Cape and Jackson, it’s clear that Girard’s hard work continuously improves the community that she lives in.

“I’m not originally born and raised in Jackson, but my family is,” Girard said. “I’ve been coming here for my whole life. My husband and I have lived here for four-and-a-half years, and we have a little baby.”

Now, at Uptown Jackson, Girard will coordinate big local events, making sure that they run smoothly.

“I’ll mostly be focusing on the events that Jackson has, like Oktoberfest, Springfest, Jackson in Bloom, Farm-to-Table, and those kinds of things,” Girard said. “I’m al-so on the Design Committee, and we do the Annual February Art Event every year.”

With all of these local events, Girard will have her work cut out for her, but she isn’t worried.

“It is a lot of stuff, but it’ll be very fun because I’ve volunteered for many of these events before,” Girard said. “It’s a pretty easy transition into this role, which is great.”
