Mayor Hahs receives R.A. Fulenwider Award at Chamber banquet

Jackson Mayor Dwain Hahs received the 2023 R.A. Fulenwider Meritorious Community Service Award at the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce annual banquet Friday night at the Jackson Civic Center.

The mayor was humbled to be selected this year, noting that the honor had previously been bestowed upon his father-in-law, Billy Joe Thompson, Sr., and two brothers-in-law, Billy Joe Thompson, Jr., and John Thompson. Hahs also knew the man for whom the award is named; Fulenwider was a friend of Hahs’ father and the two of them had served together on the Chamber of Commerce years ago.

Julie Rushing, last year’s recipient, presented the award to Hahs.

The Business of the Year Award was presented to T Ravs, an Italian restaurant owned an operated by Jarod Handley since 2022.

Seabaugh’s Locksmith received the Small Business of the Year Award. Owned by Danny Seabaugh, the business celebrated 10 years Jan. 1.

Jackson R-2 Superintendent Scott Smith was the Marybeth Williams Educator of the Year. He has been superintendent since 2021.

The Sam Roethemeyer Ambassador of the Year Award went to Alan Schoen, a talent acquisition specialist with The Bank of Missouri. This award is presented to someone who is involved with chamber events and helps recruit new chamber members.

The WIN (Women’s Impact network) Woman of the Year Award was presented to Dana Thomas, owner of BOLD Marketing.

Gregory Dullum has worked for The Cash-Book Journal for more than 25 years. Prior to becoming the editor in May 2017, he was production manager, circulation manager and reporter. Before moving to Cape Girardeau in 1988, he was editor of the Saint Louis Park Sailor, a weekly community newspaper in suburban Minneapolis, MN. A native of Minnesota, he returned there after graduating with distinction in 1978 from Ambassador College in Pasadena, CA, with a degree in mass communications. His wife, Marie, whom he met in college, is a native of Zalma, a small town in southeast Missouri. They have two grown daughters and five grandchildren. Gregory may be reached at
