Townsend Tree Service gets contract to trim trees around power lines

The Jackson Mayor and Board of Aldermen on March 4 accepted the low bid from Townsend Tree Service Co., LLC, of Muncie, IN, in the amount of $117.90 per crew hour to perform work under the Electrical Transmission and Distribution Line Tree Trimming and Vegetation Control Program. A contract was authorized.

(A bid of $123.53 per crew hour was also received from Kendal Vegetation Services of Lawrenceville, GA.)

In other action:

• Park concessions: The aldermen accepted a bid of 15% of total annual profits from Rockhill & Sons of Jackson for operating concession stands in Brookside Park and City Park. A contract was authorized. There was only one bidder.

• McKendree Crossing Subdivision: The final plat of McKendree Crossing Subdivision, Phase 2, as submitted by Villas of West Park, LLC, was approved. The location is south of East Main Street and east of Old Orchard Road

• Stop signs added: The “Stop Street Designation Schedule” was amended to add stop signs on Bishop Court where it intersects Steeplechase Road, on Chapel Ridge Drive where it intersects Old Orchard Road and also its intersection at Old Poplar Road, and Steeplechase Road where it intersects Chapel Ridge Drive.

• Parking prohibited: The “Parking Prohibited Schedule” was amended by adding designations on the south side of Bishop Court and chapel Ridge Drive for their entire distances.

• Handicapped parking: Two handicapped parking spaces were deleted on the east side of North Union Avenue, 125 feet north of Oak Street.
