Cape County tax rate set

The Cape Girardeau County Commission set 2017 property tax rates on Monday.

The general fund tax rate changed to 0.0719, after being at 0.0506 last year and 0.0349 in 2015.The rate was found using a foundation formula required by the state, according to Auditor Pete Frazier. He mentioned the state has set a maximum ceiling at 0.3358, and they used the recommended rate calculated by that formula.

The rates for Senior Services (0.0478), Senate Bill 40 (0.0553) and Mental Health (0.0772) remained the same as last year, as did the Road and Bridge tax at zero.

The commission also recently awarded a bid of $7,687.20 to Contech Engineered Solutions for metal culverts. The highway department administrator recommended Contech.

They additionally appointed Cindy Beussink, a human resources and payroll assistant, to attend the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS) Conference in October as an employer delegate.
