After hearing concerns from several citizens, Cape Girardeau County commissioners approved to lower the speed limit on several county roads due to the closure of a major route.
The commission originally approved setting the speed limit to 45 miles per hour last month following the closure of Route Z on County Roads 226, 227, 324, 327 and 228.
“Since Route Z closed, it has been pretty much as constant stream of concern that people are driving too fast on those roads,” Commissioner Stephen Daume said. “There have been two accidents that I am aware of and many residents contacted me about dropping the speed limit.”
Commissioners approved lowering the speed limit to 35 miles per hour on County Roads 226, 227, 324, 327 and 228 after last week’s meeting.
In other action:
• The commission approved the lowest quote from Integrated Supply Company for the blue envelopes for the county collector’s office.
According to Collector Barbara Gholson, five different vendors were contacted that have submitted bids in the past and two companies replied with quotes. Integrated Supply Company, of Cape Girardeau, provided the lowest quote in the amount of $4,151,25.
• Commissioners approved the payment of over-surplus in the amount of $62,659.64 from the tax sale in 2024 for 1813 Belleridge Pike in Cape Girardeau.
