Funeral service for Janet Sue Poston of Jackson, will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The Rev. Keith Luke will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021.
Janet, 74, passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, at Chaffee Nursing Center, after a brief illness. She was born April 3, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, to William “Bill” and Mildred Sitze Poston.
Janet was a graduate of Cape Central High School. She worked many years at Procter and Gamble, retiring in 1999.
She was a longtime member of First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She was faithful to Christian service, participating in the mission activities of the WMS, and going on mission trips – traveling twice to Honduras.
Janet had a special place in her heart for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and participated in many fundraisers for them. Her other civic service included the Jackson Noon Optimist and delivering Meals on Wheels for the Jackson Senior Center.
Janet was also an equine enthusiast. She loved being with her horses. In the early 1970’s, she joined the Jackson Trail Riders and later joined the Tennessee Walking Pleasure Horse Club and held offices in both organizations. Through her participation in church, civic clubs, and equine activities, she made countless friends.
Loving survivors include two brothers, Ronald (Nancy) Poston of Cape Girardeau, and Richard (Dorothy) Poston of Jackson, nine nieces and nephews, Ronnie (Laurel) Poston, Cheryl (Frank) Stoffregen and Darla (Mark) Luhring, all of Cape Girardeau, Debbie (Mark) Lunte and Bev (Jim) Givens, both of Arnold, Michael (Julie) Poston, David (Tracy) Poston and Shelley (Mike) Lucas, all of Jackson and Rodney Poston (Virginia McDonald) of Louisville, KY, 20 great-nieces and nephews, David, Darren, Dana, April, Scott, Amy, Jessica, Jenisha, Jamie, Courtney, Tarl, Lana, Natalie, Jake, Luke, Salena, Austin, Brooke, Allyssa and Caleb and 32 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Rodney (Virginia) Poston and William (Lucille) Poston and a niece, Karen Lipps.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
