Robert Thomas

Robert Wynn Thomas, 91, of Uniontown passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born July 13, 1930, in Poultney, VT, son of Thomas William and Elizabeth Ann Williams Thomas. He and Joyce Petschke were married Aug. 15, 1959, at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. She passed away April 6, 2021.

After graduating high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 serving honorably until 1952; he went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1954 until retiring in 1972 as master sergeant. Over his military career, he was awarded many medals for his service.

In 1973 he went to work for Procter and Gamble in the Cape Girardeau plant retiring in 1989.

Robert was a member of Perryville V.F.W. Post 3282, American Legion Post 133 in Perryville and American Veterans in Perryville.

Robert was a man of many “loves” especially his wife, Joyce. Together they visited all 50 states. He loved collecting coins and sharing them with others. He worked diligently to help obtain military medals of honors for his deceased relatives.

Loving survivors include two sons, Caleb Thomas of St. Louis, and Craig (Elizabeth) Thomas of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Cathryn (Kirby) Klaus of Uniontown; seven grandchildren, Heather Westbrook, Robert Thomas, Reece (Lauren) Thomas, Maxwell Winchester, Dakota Thomas, Bailey Thomas and Wesley Klaus.

Also surviving are a brother, John Edward Thomas; brother- in-law, James Petschke and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Thomas; five siblings, Elizabeth Honey, Margaret Prevost, Thomas William Thomas, Lester Thomas and Ruth Janowiki.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, March 4, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, at the church with Rev. Paul Winngham officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall in Perryville or Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
