Roberta Jean

Roberta Fay Robb Jean, 93, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at The Chateau Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 7, 1928, in LaHarpe, KS, to the late Harley and Mary Etta Harclerode Robb. She grew up with her brothers and sisters helping her parents on the farm. Roberta graduated from Humboldt High School in Humboldt, KS, in 1946 and Iola Junior College in Iola, KS, in 1949.

She worked for a doctor, drug store and bank before marrying and having children. Roberta married Joseph Wallace Jean, Jr. on Nov. 26, 1950, at Jeddo Church near LaHarpe, KS. They shared 65 years of marriage before his passing on April 16, 2016.

Over the years of their marriage they lived in Snyder, TX, Midland, TX, El Dorado, AR, and Shreveport, LA, before moving to The Chateau Girardeau to be near her daughters the last 18 years.

Roberta was an active member of Brookwood Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA, for many years where she taught Vacation Bible School, GAs, and Children’s Sunday School. She was a member of WMU, her Ladies’ Sunday School Class, and Petroleum Engineer’s Wives Club. She also volunteered at the Shumpert Hospital Gift Shop. She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church after moving to Cape Girardeau.

Roberta enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, cooking, camping, fishing, and gardening.

Survivors include her children, Linda (Bob) Phillips of Jackson; Julia (Steve) Bricknell of Grand Junction, CO; and Robert Gregory (Mary) Jean of Whitehouse, TX; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with another on the way; two brothers-in law: Gayle Worf of Madison, WI, and William Jean of Northport, AL, a sister-in-law, Hazel Robb of Humboldt, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and two brothers.

There will be a family graveside service at the MO Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, where she will be buried with her husband.

Arrangements are being handled by Ford and Sons Funeral Home Mt. Auburn Chapel.

Thank you to the staff at The Chateau Girardeau for the kindness and care Roberta received during her last years. Also special thanks to Southeast Hospice for the wonderful care in her final days. Memorials may be made to Southeast Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
