Shirley Gregory

Shirley Elizabeth (Scholz) Gregory, 84 of Crump was called home early Sunday morning, Nov. 19, 2023. She entered heaven peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born Sept. 14, 1939, to Marvin Eugene and Dorothy (Eakins) Scholz who preceded her in death.

She and Donald Gregory were married on Oct. 15, 1953. He preceded her in death Aug. 11, 2022.

Shirley worked alongside her husband, Donald, to run their company, Gregory’s News Agency, and was a top-selling real estate agent for many years. She had a green thumb and loved having plants all around her. She also enjoyed cooking. Everybody always looked forward to her home-made rolls and chicken and dumplings.

She was of the Baptist Faith. She and her husband were charter members of Connection Point Church – formally First General Baptist Church of Jackson. She was currently a member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump.

Loving survivors include four daughters: Dianna (John) Stapleton of Crump; Duzy (Wayne) Wiedefeld of Burfordville; Tammy (Rohan) Francis of Cape Girardeau; and Karen (Ron) Obermann of Jackson; one honorary daughter, Debbie Little. 14 Grandchildren: Sean (Lori) McFarland; Scott (Kelley) McFarland; Sarah (Shawn) Cooley; Krista (Ross) Newman; John (Kara) Stapleton; Melissa (Chad) Craft; Danielle Seabaugh (Daryl Faire); Danah (Rob) Brandel; Rebecca (Jeremy) Hahs; Michael Weston; Dusty Weston; Jeremy Voshage; Jessica (Austin) Fowler; Joshua Voshage (Heather Swift); 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and one expected in May; one sister, Cathy Campbell; and sisters-in-law, Ida (Jerry) Givens and Glenda Gregory.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter and her sister, Wanda Phelps; brothers-in-law: David Gregory; Dennis Gregory; Richard Campbell; and Bill Phelps.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump.

Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with the Revs. Scott Cook and Joseph Allen officiating and assisted by John Staple-ton. Burial will follow at Proffer Cemetery.
