On Feb. 22 at Notre Dame, there will be a girls basketball contest featuring the two top-ranked teams in Class 5 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association: The No. 2 ranked Bulldogs (6-0) are set to host the defending Class 5 State Champions in No. 1 ranked Whitfield (8-2). The game was originally scheduled for January 7, but it had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Notre Dame is coming off winning its third-straight First State Community Bank Holiday Classic Championship in commanding fashion as the Bulldogs outscored their opponents by a combined total of 184-77.

The Bulldogs beat the likes of No. 3 seed and Class 1 No. 4 ranked Delta 55-42 for the championship, while handling No. 5 Woodland 55-25 and No. 6 KIPP St. Louis 74-10 in round-robin action.

Notre Dame had three players voted to the FSCB Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team: 6-foot senior guard Lexi Rubel, 6-1 junior guard Tori Rubel and 5-9 senior guard Leah Jansen.

As for the Warriors, they failed to win their respective holiday tournament and suffered their second loss of the season in the championship game. Whitfield fell to none other than Class 6 No. 1 ranked Incarnate Word Academy (9-0) — the reigning Class 6 State Champions — 69-47 for the 47th Annual Visitation Christmas Tournament title.

The Warriors also had three all-tournament team selections: sophomore JaNyla Bush, junior Tkiyah Nelson and junior Treazure Jackson.
