High School Girls Golf: Jackson off to a strong start even without one all-stater

Last week, the Jackson girls golf team went undefeated in dual-meet action as the Indians faced off against Farmington, Notre Dame and Ste. Genevieve.

Jackson started the season by hosting Notre Dame and Ste. Genevieve on Sept. 1 as it beat both teams with a score of 166 with Notre Dame coming in second at 207.

Even though only the top four scores are used for team totals, the Indians had all six of their golfers place in the top seven as returning all-state junior Kaydi Rhodes placed first with a score of 37.

Finishing second behind Rhodes was Notre Dame’s Paige Compardo with a 40, and she was the only Bulldog to record a score under 50.

Rounding out the top five were Jackson’s final scorers recorded as junior Jacie Pattengill took third (41), junior Kasie Saysanan fourth (43) and lastly sophomore Maggie Davey fifth (45).

The Indians final two golfers tied for sixth place as freshman Alana Gilbert and junior Emma Summers both recorded a 47.

Jackson and Notre Dame met once again two days later in Farmington, which played but did not have enough for a team score. The Indians won with a score of 169 to Notre Dame’s 204.

Rhodes took first overall once again by hitting 37 as Compardo finished right behind her with a 38. Davey took third place this time as she hit a 42, while Pattengill came in behind her at 43.

This week, the Indians return Class 2 All-State medalist junior Ella Overstreet after she was forced to miss the first two meets due to not having enough practices. Overstreet did not practice the first week because she was playing in the Rolex Girls Junior Championship hosted by the AJGA at Dalhousie Golf Club.
