Becoming the sixth male Notre Dame Bulldog to earn a spot on the All-CBJ Team was none other than senior Charlie West, who made a habit of competing at the state level throughout his career.

As a member of the Bulldogs wrestling team, West finished with an overall record of 37-4 while competing at 215 pounds. He became a two-time state qualifier by winning the Class 1 District 1 Championship.

West’s final time competing at state was with the Notre Dame boys tennis squad as he became a two-time all-state medalist and helped the Bulldogs win a fourth-straight district title. The Bulldogs also finished with an overall record of 12-1.

Going back to the fall, Charlie was once again a key starter for Notre Dame’s boys soccer team, which finished 14-12 overall. The Bulldogs fell in the district championship match, but they did beat their area rival Jackson for the third season in a row during the regular season.

If West were to speak to a younger athlete, his advice to them would be, “It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of care — even sometimes obsession with the sport you’re doing. It also takes a lot of support from family and God.”
